I’ve recently been working with a few women getting surgical pre-authorization, and I’ll tell you, the process is as crazy as when I did mine two years ago. Insurance pulls all the stops to delay your surgery; I think it’s in hopes you’ll give up. DON’T GIVE UP! This process is a rollercoaster and can emotionally tax you. It doesn’t help that the legit Lipedema surgeons are booked out for months, even over a year.
If you’re in the process, I highly recommend having a support group of women who have gone through this. I also recommend getting a patient advocate and insurance expert to guide you through this process and help you get preauthorized. You’ll need help, and you want to set yourself up for success!
Many Lipedema insurance experts (including me) will charge you a fee to get through the entire insurance process, but the money is worth it if you choose a supportive and professional expert. More and more advocates are out there, so don’t think you’re forced to use only one. Do your due diligence and find someone who fits you!

I want to let you know how I’ve been staying cool this summer:
About a month ago, I splurged on a popsicle maker that looks kind of like this photo above. It was the best purchase I’ve made all summer!
I make the popsicle using frozen fruit and a touch of half-and-half to make it creamy. I’ve tried different flavors together, and sometimes, I’ll add collagen powder, protein powder, and even cacao nibs with a vanilla-flavored popsicle. They are so yummy and healthier than sugary popsicles at the grocery store.
Homemade Popsicles
This is my not-so-accurate recipe (because a lot of times I don’t measure, I just throw in stuff) for a fruit popsicle:
One Frozen Ripe Banana
One or two handfuls of frozen fruit (strawberry, blueberry, or any mixed fruit)
One cup or so of sugar-free fruit juice (I use Minute Maid sugar-free lemonade)
A splash of half-and-half (just enough to make it a little creamy)
Put all of the ingredients in a blender until it’s a smooth consistency. Add more fruit juice to thin it out if it’s too thick.
Pour into popsicle molds and freeze.
Eat and enjoy!
